The humble sheriff of Le Carré, and shop owner and operator of his traveling general store "Le Crawfish", which he runs out the back of the sheriffs departments van. Melvin gladly steps aside to let York 'steal' the investigation before the agent can even ask, claiming his job as sheriff of a tiny town is to stop minor altercations and listen to citizens complaints. He appears as a devoted husband to Candy Woods, and loving step father to Patricia Woods, who he gives the nickname C.L.G. (Standing for Clever Little Girl).

Melvin is generally upbeat and personable, seeming to have an abundant constant appreciation for movies, as he can be seen transforming his everyday life into catchy taglines. He tends to come off as a little simple-minded, and doesn't seem to be able to entirely connect with Patricia, but is loving and supportive of her ventures, happily letting her roam the town with York.
