-Personally, I believe hes immortal in the same was George was. Those red seeds are meant to grant a longer life right? Well because he works right by where they grow, its likely that the miasma has given him immortality, or maybe he died but being exposed to the seeds in life allowed him to resurrect? It could be that the seeds keep you awake as well as alive. In either case, it would explain why he chooses to live in the shed and not his big house AND it explains why he runs around the plantation in the rain: To rettain his immortality. POSSIBLY, because he is feeding off the miasma of the seeds as opposed to consuming them directly; it allows him to resist the 'bloodlust' whilst rettaining his immortality.
